Q: Can any student change to the co-op
program?
A: Yes, this program offers the option to students to students to change
into the co-op option after reaching the university. They will have to get a special
authorization which the university will arrange.
Q: What is my chance of getting a job if I change to the co-op option?
A: There is a very high chance of obtaining an internship position. However, the
type of internship position will depend on your skills, your experience, and your English
ability.
Q: I do not want the co-op program. I want to do a normal graduate masters program.
A: Sure, the choice is yours. If you do not
wish to change to a co-op program, you can continue with your normal graduate masters
program. Most student prefer to change to the co-op program because of the earning
potential. However, you will still have to take three additional
courses.
Q: Does the university guarantee me a job in the co-op program?
A: Although it is still the students responsibility to obtain their internship, CTU has
made a commitment to serve it's students, and will assist students in obtaining their
Social Security numbers, preparing their resumes, locating available
employment opportunities, as well
as train students in preparation for their internship job interviews.
Q: What will be my living expenses and tuition fee?
A: The living expenses when sharing housing with a room mate will cost about $300 per
month, or less. Students are required to take only one course every 6 weeks. The cost for
each course will be about $1,900. So, three months of tuition will only be about
$3,800.
Also, you have to pay the fee per course and not per semester.
* Fees & expenses subject to change.
Q: Why do I need a bank statement of $20,000?
A: The reason for a bank statement is two-fold: the
school needs to know that an international student has a certain amount of money in case
a) you can are not able to obtain your internship position immediately, and 2) in case of
any emergency.
$20,000 is a standard amount usually required even if
substantial financial aid is promised to a student. However, the second reason for
having a bank statement of at least $20,000 is to satisfy the visa officers that the
applicant has sufficient funds in case of any change in circumstance or emergency after
arriving in the U.S.
Q: Do I require GMAT, GRE, TOEFL scores?
A: Yes. You require TOEFL and either GRE or GMAT. There are
no minimum scores as such. However, your visa chances are significantly reduced if you
have a low score.
Q: Do I have
enough time to finish the 17 courses while working full-time, if I choose the co-op
option?
A: The program is formatted so that, over a period of 20
months you will be able to complete all 17 courses while working full time. This is
because students generally take one course at a time (for a period of 5 weeks per course).
Both domestic and international students take their courses in this manner because
most students are full time employees of companies in the area.
Q: How many working hours a week? How many holidays?
A: Your employment will be as a regular full time
or part-time employee
with all benefits as are granted to all other employees. Most
full-time employees work 40
hours per week and receive a one week vacation. This may or may not apply to your
internship. Also, many employers want the interns to convert to H1-b status after
they graduate so they can continue as permanent employees after that time.
Q: Do I have to work overtime? Can I keep the
overtime bonus?
A: Overtime is optional. Some companies want the
interns to work overtime, and others do not have overtime available. We can't know
that until you obtain your internship position.
Q: Can I earn enough money to cover my personal expenses
during the program? Or do I have to bring that sum of money?
A: That can only be determined by what type of internship
position you obtain. You should bring with you at least $8,500.
Q: What does INS stand for in "INS
regulations"?
A: INS stands for Immigration and Naturalization Service.
This is the agency of the U.S. government that is responsible for all matters
regarding international visitors, students and immigrants.
Q: If it takes me 3 years to finish the courses, does it mean I have to
work for 3 years? Or just 12 months?
A: In most cases, you will be able to finish the entire Master's
in less than two years. (The mandatory time for the internship
employment is 12 months).
Q: Are CTU degrees recognized in other parts of the US, or just in
North Central?
A: Colorado Technical University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association (30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois 60602-2504) www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org. This means CTU degrees are recognized throughout the US.
Q: The I-20 form says I have to have insurance from the
university. What type is it?
A: All universities and colleges require you to have
health insurance.
Q: How do I get authorization to work off-campus in the
first year?
A: The school will authorize your internship
employment by signing on the back of your I-20. Because the internship is mandatory for
all participants in the co-op program, and because it is a graduate degree, INS allows all
participants to begin working full time off campus from their time of entry into the
program, as indicated in the INS regulations.
