Overview McNeese State University, founded in 1939, is a comprehensive institution that awards undergraduate and graduate degrees. Lake Charles and southwest Louisiana are historically and culturally rich. The city of Lake Charles has a population of 75,000 people, and the city boasts important petrochemical, entertainment and shipping industries. The climate in Lake Charles is very temperate, we range from 50's to 90's. Lake Charles lies along the Interstate 10 corridor with Houston, Texas, and Baton Rouge just more than two hours away and New Orleans almost four hours away. Academic Programs Offered At McNeese more than 8,000 students can choose from more than 80 degree programs offered by seven colleges. The university is home to the English as a Second Language International (ESLI) program, which provides international students with intensive English training. Among the most popular programs offered at McNeese are Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Business, Chemistry, Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Criminal Justice, Education, Engineering, English, Environmental and Chemical Sciences, Finance, Health and Human Performance, History, Medical Technology, Music, Nursing, Management, Marketing, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, School Counseling, Sociology, and Wildlife Management. Campus Life McNeese has a growing international student population with nearly 250 students from 44 countries. New residence halls provide comfortable and affordable housing for McNeese students and are available year-round. Students have access to state-of-the-art computer labs located throughout the campus with convenient hours. The new Recreational Sports Center offers an Olympic-sized swimming pool, free weights, an indoor track, and state-of-the-art exercise equipment free to all students. Students may participate in a wide range of organizations, including student government, newspaper and yearbook staffs, social fraternities and sororities, religious organizations, and numerous honor societies. The campus also features a convenience store, coffee shop, bookstore, post office, and ATM. Admissions Guidelines International students applying for admission to McNeese must meet certain criteria to be eligible for admission. The following items are required: International Student Application for Admission—this is a two-page document that can be found on the McNeese Web site. Official TOEFL scores—a minimum score of 525 paper based (195 computer based) for a graduate student and 500 paper based (173 computer based) for an undergraduate student is required. Official scores must be sent directly to McNeese from the testing agency. Our institution code is 6403. Complete official secondary school and college transcripts—a minimum 2.5 grade point average is required to certify that each student has the scholastic ability to succeed in the chosen curricula. Admission can be denied, even if a student has the minimum 2.5 average. If any of the admissions committee feels as though the student does not have the scholastic preparation for their chosen curricula, admission can be denied. Immunization form. Affidavit of support—the affidavit of support must be accompanied by a bank statement or letter from a financial institution verifying the availability of funds in the amount stated on the affidavit of support.
Residence hall application—this is required if you wish to live on campus.
Scholarship application—international scholarships are merit-based and are awarded on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to apply early. All scholarships are subject to the availability of funds. Official GRE or GMAT scores—for graduate students only, scores must be on file in the McNeese Graduate Studies Office. Official scores must be sent to McNeese directly from the testing agency. A nonrefundable $30 application fee—paid by money order or check (drawn from a U.S. bank). All required documents must be received by the following deadlines in order to be considered for admission: summer session, March 15; fall semester, May 15; spring semester, October 15.
