Postgraduate
Diploma - Business Management
(Term 2: January - April)
This programme facilitates the
transfer of graduates from disciplines
other than business and will enable
participants to gain the skills and
competencies required in today’s
business world.
The primary aim of this course
is to provide participants with the
opportunity to gain a higher award in
business and management through a
structured and delineated programme.
At Diploma level you will complete
four modules:
Strategic Management &
Organisational Dynamics:
This module explores the role of strategic
management in relation to the nature of
organisational decision-making and the
effective management of organisations.
The student will be exposed to the
language and particular models through
which strategic management is currently
practised. Critical evaluation of under-standings
of strategic management will
be made through recognition of those
dynamic forces which can act to subvert
more rational decision-making and
implementation procedures. The implications
of such a critique will be explored
in regard to issues of management style,
change and control in organisations.
Management &
Organisation Development:
Organisation Development is
about developing organisations through a
wide variety of planned-change interventions.
This module explores the various
strategies available to help people and
organisations to cope with constant
pressures for change. It provides an over-view
of organisations in the context
of contemporary concerns about
sustainable developments and extends
participants’ range of conceptual frame-works
and techniques associated with
sophisticated organisation developments.
Knowledge &
Innovation Management:
This module provides students with
opportunities to explore the conceptual
frameworks associated with knowledge
and innovation. Key aspects of this
include the awareness of a range of
approaches to innovation and know-ledge
according to organisational and
national culture and contingency, as well
as philosophy and values. The module
relates knowledge strategy to leadership
behaviour in the creation of a positive
climate of innovation and change.
International
Business Management:
Students are provided with the opportunity
to examine the impact on business
behaviour and strategy of the rapid growth
in recent years of international business
activity. This will provide insights into how
organisations can develop strategies to
successfully take advantage of the internationalisation
process. The module will
allow you to develop expertise in using
particular frameworks and techniques
relevant for international business
managers.
